World Cup - 1979

The second World Cup was in England in the year 1979. It was sponsored by Prudential Insurance Company and hence was called the Prudential World Cup. This year also, eight teams participated – Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, SriLanka, West Indies and Canada which replaced East Africa.

In this World Cup, the teams were divided into two groups. The two best teams among the group qualified for the semifinals. In group A England and Pakistan qualified for the semifinals while in group B, West Indies and New Zealand were in semifinals. India was as the last position in group B.

The finals was played between England and West Indies. West Indies batted first and score 286 for 9 in 60 overs. They defeated England by 92 runs.

So the second World Cup was also lifted by West Indies.
