World Cup - 1987

India and Pakistan hosted the fourth World Cup in 1987 and was called the Reliance World Cup. Again eight teams participated – Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, SriLanka, West Indies and Zimbabwe. The format was the same as the 1983 World Cup except for the number of overs which were now reduced to 50.

In group A, India and Australia and in Group B Pakistan and England entered the semifinals. Both the host teams topped the scoring charts in their respective group. Both India and Pakistan failed to enter the finals and could not bring about an eagerly waited India-Pakistan finals.

In the finals against England, Australia won by 7 runs. Australia under the captaincy of Allan Border lifted the World Cup. David Boon was declared the man of the match.

Australia lifted the fourth World Cup – Reliance World Cup.
