World Cup - 1999

England hosted the 1999 Cricket World Cup. Ireland, Scotland and the Netherlands also hosted some games. Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, Kenya and Scotland participated in this World Cup. The teams were divided into two groups. Each team played the other teams in the league state. The top three teams in the group entered the Super Sixes. In the super sixes each qualifier from one group played with each of the qualifier in the other group. The points from games against each qualifier were carried forward. The top four in the super sixes contested the semifinals.

Pakistan, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, Zimbabwe and India qualified for the super sixes. Among them New Zealand, Pakistan, Australia and South Africa entered the semifinals. In the first semifinals New Zealand scored 241 losing 7 wickets in 50 overs. Pakistan won by 9 wickets.

In the sensational second semifinal which was a tie, Australia progressed to the final because of their net run rate.

Australia won the finals against Pakistan with 8 wickets in hand. Pakistan scored only 132. Australia reached the target in just 20.1 overs. Shane Warne was declared the man of the match.
