The second match was between the World Cup Champions Australia and the debutant Scotland. The match was a one sided game. After losing the toss, Australia were asked to bat first. The scored heavily against this new team. The top batting order looked in great form with Gilchrist, Hayden and Ponting all scoring runs. Ponting scored the highest with 113 runs in just 93 balls hitting 9 fours and 5 sixes.
Scotland was bowled out for just 131. They faced only 40.1 overs. Ricky Ponting was declared the man of the match for his splendid batting performance.
