Mission World Cup – 2007

With the good wishes and blessings of millions of people, the Indian Team has departed for the World Cup 2007 with strong determination of winning it again after the win in 1983.

24 years back, India created history by defeating the mighty West Indies in the World Cup final under the captaincy of all rounder – Kapil Dev. Will Rahul Dravid be able to fulfill the hopes of crores of people in India of winning this World Cup.

In 1983 at the finals in Lords, India defeated West Indies and proved to the world that it was then an invincible and mighty team. It was all a magical moment. There were very little hopes of India winning the World Cup then. This same pressure of winning the World Cup again in 2007 is on Rahul Dravid. All the teams participating are strong contenders and all hope of winning this World Cup.

In the previous World Cup, under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly, India had to fight hard to defeat Holland in their opening match. At that time stones were thrown at Kaif’s home. In their next matches, India played well and were able to reach the finals. But were defeated by Ricky Ponting’s strong team members. Sachin scored 673 runs in the tournament and was declared the player of the tournament.

This time under the supervision of coach Guru Greg Chappel and captain Rahul Dravid, India has been able to find players with talent and spirit of winning the World Cup. So again the hopes in the minds of Indian people have rose. India will be playing its opening match with Bangladesh at Port of Spain.

Cheers.

What is calypso?
A musical style of West Indian origin, influenced by jazz, usually having topical, often improvised, lyrics.

Then why calypso cricket?
It is this same festive season which gives us the reason for calling the world cup cricket as ‘Calypso Cricket’. Infact this is the reason why West Indies Cricket Board has a reason to host the World Cup.

Cricket in this part of the world is played with great passion and at the same time enjoyed to its highest level with live music, drums, food, etc. Many of the people who will be visiting West Indies for watching World Cup will also be visiting many other places where they will get to enjoy the festive part of West Indies. Caribbean, St. Marten and the Leeward Islands, Ouanalao Dive St Barthelemy, etc are some of the places which would be crowded with tourists from all over the world. Tourism in West Indies will be at the highest.

Major test-playing nations are competing against each other – Australia, India, South Africa, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, England, Scotland, Kenya and Canada. This time Ireland and Bermuda also have a chance of competing with the other great nations. The best eight teams will then go ahead and play the Super Eights to qualify for the semi finals.

The first match starts on 13 March 2007. It will be played between West Indies and Pakistan. The final will be played on 28 April 2007. India, Australia seems to be strong contenders for taking home the World Cup.

So finish all your office deadlines and be prepared for this entertaining competition against the top Test playing nations.
Cheers
